About

Stitches & Spindles is the heart of a lifelong creative journey that began when I was just five years old, sitting with knitting needles that felt almost too big for my hands. From those first uneven stitches, I discovered something that would stay with me for life — the quiet satisfaction of making something from nothing but yarn and time. The creative fibre arts inspiration arrived early.

My creative world expanded when I was twelve, under the guidance of my grandmother, who taught me how to crochet. Those moments with her were about more than learning a skill. They were about patience, tradition, and the simple joy of working with your hands. Crochet became another language of creativity for me, one that connected generations.

It was later, while living in New Zealand, that I discovered spinning. Learning to spin fibre into yarn felt like uncovering an ancient kind of magic. Watching soft fibre transform into a strong, continuous thread deepened my appreciation for every stage of the fibrecraft journey. Spinning gave me a new perspective — not just using yarn, but creating it. Dyeing came along with the spinning. Experimenting with natural dyes, commercial dyes, and seeing what came out at the end.

Cross stitch entered my life through a very small gift card. It was simple and unassuming, but from the moment I made those first tiny crosses, I was hooked. There was something deeply calming in the rhythm, and incredibly rewarding in watching an image slowly appear, one stitch at a time. Stamped cross stitch kit progress will be updated as I go.

Every craft I’ve learned has added another layer to my story, and each one continues to bring creativity and balance to my everyday life.

Stitches & Spindles blog exists because I want to share these passions with others. Whether you are picking up needles for the first time, returning after many years, or trying to learn to spin, cross stitch or crochet, or simply curious about what’s possible, I hope to encourage and inspire you. I want to show that these skills are not out of reach — they are waiting, ready to be learned, enjoyed, and carried forward. Creative hobbies for stress relief  do work. Everything is possible.

Because creativity isn’t just about making things. It’s about making a life.
