Highland Cow

The Highland Cow stamped cross stitch is a project that feels especially meaningful, because it’s being stitched just for my daughter. She has always loved Highland cows, so it seemed only right that she chose the exact design herself. There’s something special about stitching a piece that you know will be treasured long after the final thread is in place.

At 34cm by 34cm, the size is perfect. It’s not too large to feel overwhelming, but it’s big enough to really settle into and enjoy the process. Now that it’s well underway and nearly half completed, the personality of the cow is already beginning to emerge. The soft colours give the whole piece a gentle, warm feel, perfectly capturing that calm, shaggy charm Highland cows are known for.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of this design is how relaxing it is to stitch. There isn’t too much confetti, which makes it easy to find a rhythm and simply enjoy the stitching without constantly changing threads. It’s the kind of project that you can pick up at the end of a busy day and make steady, satisfying progress.

Knowing who it’s for makes every stitch feel more purposeful.

With each section completed, it becomes less of a kit and

more of a gift made with love. I’m looking forward to seeing her reaction when it’s finally finished, framed, and ready to hang in her space.
